As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the government of Southminster Presbyterian Church is comprised of Elders, elected by the congregation along with the minister of the Word and Sacrament. Together these groups constitute the governing body of the Session, responsible for the mission and government of the church.

The Session of Southminster is composed of nine elders divided into three classes and moderated by the Pastor. One of these classes becomes inactive on the Session at the end of each year and is replaced by a new class elected by the congregation. The classes are named by the year in which they become inactive.
